The first bounce made no splash
Like a perfect stone skip I floated above,
Unaffected by the ripples it made
Unhindered by gravity, I ascended.
The second impact floated along, slowing my speed ever so slightly
I barely felt it, and when the waves faded it was gone, lost across the world
Never to impact again.
The third rebounded across the hills
Thinking the stone kept going,
The ripples disguised the rock sinking
Falling into the abyss to entrap one’s soul.
The time passes, and the lack of more skips disturbs me
Numb, slowed by the thick fluid
I wander through the motions.
Not realizing the risen predicament,
I stumble on in vain.
Every little step in that direction
Leads me back to that place
Skipping rocks has never been the same
Since I learned I was just another name.
Those ripples still echo inside me.
Loose, frigid beings,
Reduce my mind to a pile of ash
While you go about like nothing ever happened.
1. Tiredness. Must…have…nap…

"What? No, I’m sorry, I ordered half a dozen mini bagels —”
"Shut up, we’re keeping them."
